What is the weather going to be like?
You can expect to experience a wide range of temperatures and conditions on your Amgen Tour of California trip. The first four days will be spent between approximately 5,000 and 6,500 feet elevation, and the last two days will take you to downtown Los Angeles, just a few hundred feet above sea level. Please be prepared for colder conditions (as low as the 30’s) on Mt. Baldy, and expect warm and sunny conditions in Los Angeles. In other words, be prepared for anything, including rain! We recommend dressing in layers and always checking the forecast the week before your trip in order to pack appropriately.
What are the daily rides like?
| Rider Type | 3 |
Average Daily Mileage | 40 |
| Terrain | hilly to mountainous |
Average Daily Elevation | 3,900 |
Although Trek Travel provides significant support throughout our rides with both riding guides and van support, due to the nature of the Amgen Tour of California, we cannot guarantee that the van will be able to support riders all the way to each mountain viewing. Guests on this trip should be able to comfortably ride to each live viewing as some viewings may not be accessible by van. Amgen Tour of California is best suited for our Level 3 Riders. Our Trek Travel guides can also easily accommodate Level 2 Riders with a boost in the van on non race viewing days. Level 4 Riders will enjoy the extra mileage the avid route options offer. The terrain is generally hilly throughout the trip. The riding around Lake Arrowhead features shorter, steeper climbs while the roads to Big Bear Lake and Mt Baldy have longer climbs (25 to 30 miles of climbing of varying grades, with some short downhill sections). See Itinerary for specific daily ride distance and elevation options.
What are the options for a non-rider travel companion?
This destination is best suited to guests who want to cycle every day. Because of the terrain and/or remoteness of the hotels and riding routes, there are few, if any, non-riding options available. If a non-rider wants to accompany a rider guest on this trip, they would need to spend many hours in the van and/or at the hotels on the trip. Due to this, we strongly discourage non-riders from this destination.
As an alternative, call a Trek Travel Trip Consultant at 866.464.8735 for trip suggestions where more non-rider activities are available, such as:

Vision Quest offers custom training plans that will get you ready to tackle your trip with confidence. The coaches consider the amount of hours you can train per week, what you need to focus on based on your goals and milestones you need to hit in order to achieve them. They develop a detailed write up and training plan just for you!

Wow’s From Our Guests & More Photos
When we asked our guests what their favorite WOW’s were from their Amgen Tour of California vacations, here is what they said…
Overall I was extremely impressed with the quality of the trip. The guides went above and beyond to try to accommodate our needs and to make it enjoyable. The riding was fun and you could make it as challenging as desired. Lots of fun and definitely will be a repeat customer. —Diego
This was the best vacation ever, we still talk about it all the time, getting to see the race and racers up close and getting to ride their routes besides, was something I never thought possible. And having everything taken care of - all we had to do was show up. That was incredible. The bikes were ready when it was time to ride, the vans were ready when it was time to travel, we knew exactly what was on the schedule and where to be and everything went off smoothly - well choreographed. Now that I've experienced it I realize that the price was a real bargain - I don't see how you can offer all the amenities at that price. Anyway, thank you - thank you - thank you. We had a blast!! —Laurie
Trek seems to know how to do an active vacation - everything was great. Thanks so much.—Katherine
My favorite part was getting treated like a VIP all the time.—Steven
Great access to team Astana, meeting Johan Bruyneel, and the others.—Scott
We loved the "celebrity" of the race experience.—Candace & Pete
