What is the weather going to be like?
Summer in South Australia generally brings sunny, warm days (temperatures 80F-90F), with the potential of extremely hot days. Along the coast, there is also the possibility of cool ocean breezes. Light layers are recommended for riding, and a warmer layer for the evenings is a good idea. Because the sun is strong in South Australia, sunscreen or lightweight long sleeves are a must.
What are the daily rides like?
| Rider Type | 2&3 |
Average Daily Mileage | 35 |
| Terrain | undulating |
Average Daily Elevation | 1,800 |
On all of our vacations, Trek Travel strives to find quiet, paved secondary roads or bike paths to experience a region; busy roads are avoided as much as possible. South Australia is best suited for our Type 2&3 Riders. Our Trek Travel guides can also easily accommodate Type 2 Riders, who seek less mileage or fewer uphills, with a boost in the van. Type 3 Riders will enjoy the extra mileage the avid route options offer. The terrain is rolling with occasional short, steep climbs in potential headwinds. Most days have a combination of short and longer ascents on roads in good repair. There are some days with little elevation gain. See Itinerary for specific daily ride distance and elevation options.
What are the options for a non-rider travel companion?
On most Trek Travel trips, we offer non-riding options for riders who want to take the afternoon off, or travel companions who want to spend little or no time in the saddle. Some of these options may need to be scheduled before your trip, please contact one of our Trip Consultants for more information. Expenses and/or related transportation to these activities may not be included in the trip price. See Included In The Trip Price for more information.
Some non-riding options on this trip are:
- Tour one of the many local vineyards and taste famous Australian wines
- Get up close to kangaroos, koalas and more during a visit to Cleland Wildlife Park
- Spend a day at the beach, enjoying the warm sun and crystal clear waters
- Explore the historic, German-accented towns of Hahndorf and Angaston, home to inviting shops, galleries and cafes
