Daytime temperatures are typically in the 70’s and 80’s, but can rapidly drop in the evening. Night temperatures range from the 60’s to 70’s or hotter on the coast. Bring layers, as well as a rain jacket, to be prepared for possible rain. Because of the varying activities on this trip, we recommended that you bring the following clothing and equipment in addition to your bike gear: bathing suit, small backpack or duffel for overnight river trip, sandals or water shoes for rafting (no flip flops), hiking or running shoes, quick-drying shirts, "croakies" or other retaining strap for glasses on the river, waterproof case or bag for camera (if bringing it on the river), small headlamp or flashlight. Dressy clothing is not necessary.
What are the daily rides like?
| Rider Type | 2 |
Average Daily Mileage | 15 |
| Terrain | hilly |
Average Daily Elevation | 0 |
On all of our vacations, Trek Travel strives to find quiet, paved secondary roads or bike paths to experience a region; busy roads are avoided as much as possible. Costa Rica is best suited for our Type 2 Riders. Our Trek Travel guides can also easily accommodate Type 1 Riders, who seek less mileage or fewer uphills, with a boost in the van. Type 2 Riders will enjoy the extra mileage the avid route options offer. The terrain is mostly non-technical on rough roads, trails and pavement, with some steep grades. Hiking trails are narrow with some steep grades. We'll enjoy rafting on a wilderness river, and surfing or kayaking on gentle ocean waves. See Itinerary for specific daily ride distance and elevation options.
What are the options for a non-rider travel companion?
On most Trek Travel trips, we offer non-riding options for riders who want to take the afternoon off, or travel companions who want to spend little or no time in the saddle. Some of these options may need to be scheduled before your trip, please contact one of our Trip Consultants for more information. Expenses and/or related transportation to these activities may not be included in the trip price. See Included In The Trip Price for more information.
Some non-riding options on this trip are:
- Whitewater rafting
- Jungle canopy tour
- Hiking
- Kayaking
- Surfing
- Cooking Class
- Walk on the beach
- Swimming in the Pacific Ocean
