What are the daily rides like?
| Rider Type | 2 |
Average Daily Mileage | 40 |
| Terrain | hilly |
Average Daily Elevation | 1,500 |
On all of our vacations, Trek Travel strives to find quiet, paved secondary roads or bike paths to experience a region; busy roads are avoided as much as possible. California Wine Country is best suited for our Type 2 Riders. Our Trek Travel guides can also easily accommodate Type 1 Riders, who seek less mileage or fewer uphills, with a boost in the van. Those who wish to ride every mile but are concerned about their physical ability may want to try our electric bike option–you still get a workout but can climb alongside even the strongest rider. Type 3 Riders will enjoy the extra mileage the avid route options offer. The terrain is generally rolling, with a few flat stretches on quiet, but sometimes narrow roads. For those seeking more challenging rides, the hills to the east or west of the valley are sure to please even the most avid cyclist. See Itinerary for specific daily ride distance and elevation options.
What are the options for a non-rider travel companion?
On most Trek Travel trips, we offer non-riding options for riders who want to take the afternoon off, or travel companions who want to spend little or no time in the saddle. Some of these options may need to be scheduled before your trip–please contact one of our Trip Consultants for more information. Expenses and/or related transportation to these activities may not be included in the trip price. See Included In The Trip Price for more information.
As an alternative, call a Trek Travel Trip Consultant at 866.464.8735 for trip suggestions where more non-rider activities are available, such as:
- Enjoy an incredible farm to table, wine-paired dinner at Quivira Estate. An unforgettable experience.
- Shop in boutiques all around Sonoma, Yountville and Healdsburg
- Enjoy winery tours and tasting available at Benziger Family Winery, The Hess Collection, Cakebread Cellars, Opus One, Arista, and Michel Schlumberger to name a few
- Walk and explore the Armstrong Redwoods State Park

Wow’s From Our Guests & More Photos
When we asked our guests what their favorite WOW’s were from their California Wine Country vacations, here is what they said…
The bike routes were fantastic and took us to breathtaking views and incredible scenery.—Kim
My favorite parts of the trip were the pleasant, skilled guides, excellent accommodation choices and the ever changing scenery.—Rens
The overall experience is what impressed me the most. I was very impressed how smoothly everything went with fifteen strangers. Which by the end of the trip we were no longer strangers but one group.—Heidi
One of the experiences that we really enjoyed on the Wine Country trip was the time at Summit Lake Vineyard. The smaller venues just really seem to offer a truly unique view into the area and also provide a very personal experience.—Melissa
How seamless the trip was from start to finish - from logistics of getting from place to place to the management of the activities and cycling to the fulfillment of special requests - every detail was acknowledged and taken care of, which truly allowed you to completely relax and enjoy each and every day.—Scott
